These Majestic 1000 ft. Lake Freighters are a common sight from the "Straits View Motel Mountain".  Our location towers over the "Straits of Mackinac" giving our guests a unique eye advantage over  Freighters on their way to, and back from, the Soo Locks.    It's common knowledge that this shipping lane can be extremely treacherous at times, having become the final resting spot for many of these large ships, including the "Edmund Fitzgerald".  But on a clear day, it's extremely relaxing to watch these ships sail into the Straits, Under the Bridge and on their way North.
