Meet the Owners of the Straits View Motel:          

Ivan and Mary Wilde retired early from Muskegon County.  Ivan as a Deputy Sheriff and Mary from the Circuit Court.  They pursued their dream of living and owning a business in the Upper Peninsula.  Mary handles the day to day operation of the motel which has allowed Ivan to pursue other interests as well.  Ivan is currently the Manager of the Coldwell Banker Schmidt Real Estate Office in St. Ignace and is also a member of the Mackinac County Sheriff's Department in the Recreational Vehicle Division.   He is able to assist other's who have a dream of relocating, year around or seasonally, to the Upper Peninsula by helping with their real estate needs.  He is also able to continue with his law enforcement career in an area that he loves.

Our Business

Was built in the late 1950's and has been operated sucessfully since that time.  Of course numerous upgrades have been completed on a regular basis but we still maintain the "Mom & Pop" aspect of the motel business.  That way we are able to avoid becoming a chain motel with franchise fees and higher rates.  Because of our location and great views of the Straits of Mackinac, several developers have mentioned the desirablity of turning our location into a Condominium Site.  Well, maybe in the future but right now we still enjoy meeting new guests from year to year.  Our saying is, "Your only a stranger until we meet you for the first time".

Who We Are

In order to be successful in the Motel Industry you have to enjoy people.  During our tenure as Straits View Motel Owners we have met some fantastic people and many have become personal friends.  Mary and I enjoy people and will strive to make you stay with us as comfortable and as much fun as possible.  So please, even if your just passing through the area, stop in and say Hi.
